Visit Zambia

  • Big cats & safari wildlife

Zambia is a safari destination for the connoisseur, boasting a fantastic range of wildlife in its diverse national parks. • Birds

Zambia offers the full range of fascinating, colourful birdlife you’d expect to see on safari, with a range of water based birds in the Lower Zambezi and Kafue National Parks. The Bangweulu Wetlands are one of the few places on the planet where you can see the impressive Shoebill Stork.

  • Boat trips

An evening cruise on the Zambezi in Livingstone and game viewing from Kafue’s Lufupa River are wonderfully relaxing, but best of all are the water based activities in the Lower Zambezi. Drifting slowly down river, observing elephants coming into drink as the sun goes down is one of the definitive African experiences.

  • Night drives

With night drives offered in all of the major national parks, Zambia is arguably the best destination in Africa to observe nocturnal wildlife. The South Luangwa in particular is known for outstanding leopard sightings, and there is a tangible excitement to watching how wildlife behaves after dark.

  • Victoria Falls

By any judgement Victoria Falls is an awesome force of nature. During the wet season up to 550 million litres of water cascades over the lip of the Falls each minute, offering an intensely photogenic experience. The spectacle that so bewitched David Livingstone is still equally impressive today.

  • Walking safari

With superb guides and remote wilderness, the country that invented the walking safari is still the premier walking destination on the continent. There is nothing quite like approaching elephants or buffalo on foot knowing full well that you are a mere guest in their territory.

Sussi Lodge

Livingstone & Victoria Falls

Sussi Lodge is named after one of David Livingstone's faithful bearers who carried his body 1500km from the fringe of the Bangweulu swamps to Dar es Salaam to be shipped back to England where he was interred in Westminster Abbey. It is a luxury upmarket lodge found in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park about twenty minutes from the town of Livingstone, overlooking the Zambezi River.

There are ten thatched tree-houses, built into the living canopy of giant ebony trees lining the bank. Each tree-house is large and luxurious with pretty bedrooms, including an open plan bathrooms and beautiful decks amongst the branches with views of the Zambezi. The circular shaped room has floor to ceiling windows and slide doors allowing elegant views of the Zambezi. Reed blinds can be pulled down for privacy within the cool confines, where elegant furniture and crisp white linen is combined with a subtle hint of African ethnicity.

The main lodge building features a spectacular raised bar/lounge deck, with a circular stairway leading down to a library, an open air dining area, a swimming pool and a small lawn sweeping down to the water's edge. There is a boardwalk leading to another area of raised decking that offers sweeping views of the Zambezi, has a central fireplace to keep warm whilst sitting under the stars and is also the site for the boat launches. Resident wildlife, such as hippopotamus and elephant, are likely to wander through the lodge grounds at any time. There is an open sided treatment room at the base of the garden where massages are possible with a magnificent backdrop of the Zambezi river flowing past.

Activities from Sussi Lodge include a guided tour of Victoria Falls and rain forest on the Zambian side, game drives in the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, a cultural tour of Livingstone, nature walks in the surrounding area, early morning or sunset river cruises and fishing in the Zambezi River.
