Every year, from October until December, eight million Straw-coloured Fruit Bats arrive from the Congo to feed on the wild musuku fruits in Zambia's Kasanka National Park. It is the world's largest mammal migration.

This spectacular event was recently featured in the 'Mammals' episode of the new David Attenborough Life series on BBC TV.

In fact, you can combine watching this unforgettable sight with a other highlights of Zambia, such as the nearly Bangweulu Wetlands. This is one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife secrets with the shoebill stork a particular draw. There are also wattled crane, sacred ibis, spur winged goose and swamp flycatcher, as well as plentiful elephant, buffalo, reedbuck and massive herds of black lechwe.

North Luangwa National Park and South Luangwa National Park, are two of the leading parks on the continent, and being close to Kasanka National Park, are also easily combined with a trip to see the bat migration.
