North of Bwejuu Village, Breezes is a large hotel with 70 rooms and yet because of its low key and friendly atmosphere manages to feel like a place half its size.
It is not part of a chain but managed personally by its owners who deliberately reject the constant organised activity and entertainment style of the other big hotels on the beach.
The hotel stands on a glorious stretch of white beach, dotted with traditional fishing villages. Seaweed farmers wade in the sea and, at high tide, dhows sail in with the day's catch.
Rooms at Breezes are spread about the spacious grounds which are filled with brightly coloured bougainvillea plants. All rooms are tastefully decorated in ivory tones, with cotton throws, teak wood finishes and Zanzibar carvings. All are fully air-conditioned and have en suite bathrooms. Facilities include fridges, safe boxes and hairdryers.
Breezes has three categories of room, standard, deluxe and suites. The deluxe and suites have the closest proximity to the sea whilst standard rooms are set back in the gardens. Both standard and deluxe are identical in terms of décor and size. The suites are larger and include walk-in dressing rooms, larger bathrooms and have private terraces with sunloungers.
Zanzibar is famous for its abundant variety of exotic spices and seafood and the hotel chefs prepare a superb variety of cuisine. There are a number of different restaurants at the hotel including the Salama Restaurant, The Sultan’s Table, Breakers Grill and The Tides restaurant. At night there is a convivial bar, perfect for a pre-dinner drink.
For those looking to relax the beautiful Frangipani Spa is ideal, offering a wide variety of facial, body and hand and foot treatments, as well as specialised massage techniques.
For the active, there is a wealth of activities and facilities: there is a large swimming pool, a fitness centre, floodlit tennis court, dive centre and marine activities centre which offers windsurfing and snorkelling.
