Reasons To
Visit Zanzibar Archipelago

  • Beaches

Zanzibar, an island located just off Dar es Salaam, is blessed with a coastline of picture perfect beaches. There are miles of white sand leading into shallow turquoise water lined with offshore reefs and dotted with small fishing villages sheltering under coconut palms.

  • Dhow Cruises

At high tide all the dhows sail in to the various beaches and harbours on Zanzibar and lively bartering for the day’s catch ensues. Cruising around the islands on a traditional dhow boat is one of the best ways to experience Zanzibar.

  • Diving & Snorkelling

Mafia is the site of Tanzania’s first marine national park, covering 800 square kilometres and with over 460 species of fish and fantastic corals. There are a wide variety of dive and snorkel spots in the Archipelago with something to offer for all abilities.

  • Rest & Relaxation

There are some very busy beaches, backed by large resorts which we don’t use. We have driven all round the island and found quiet beaches with small boutique hotels and simple lodges. We’ll drive you across the island to these and you can relax in peace.

  • Swahili Culture

Flanked by the sea, Stone Town is exotic and steeped in Swahili history. Laden dhows sail in to the port, crumbling buildings cast shadows over labyrinthine streets and the smell of spices fills the air. Much of Stone Town was built in the 19th Century and remains unchanged to this day.

  • Turtles

The most commonly found turtle in Zanzibar is the green turtle, followed by the hawksbill. Both nest in Zanzibar and Pemba is one of the best places to see them. There are several projects being run to help protect these endangered animals and their nesting sites.

Fundu Lagoon

Pemba Island

Offer available: Tanzania & Zanzibar Honeymoon Special: 14 days from £4,390 per person, saving up to £890 per personMore details

Undoubtedly one of East Africa's most stylish hotels, Fundu Lagoon is situated above a long sandy beach with a wooden pier and sunset bar stretching over the water.

There are eighteen designer tents, set under makuti roofs on wooden decks, some of which are on the beach front and the remaining on the hillside in the indigenous forest.

The rooms are very stylish and equipped with large double beds, mosquito nets, ceiling and standing fans, and outdoor seating areas. Each has a large en suite bathroom with fresh hot water shower, toilet, basin and selection of aromatherapy soaps and lotions. Two of the eighteen rooms are standard suites - one is located on the beach and one is tucked away in the shady forest, and both boast larger tents, private plunge-pools and a private deck.

There are also four superior suites, both of which are located on the beach, and feature even larger private decks and a separate shady lounge area with daybeds. The main areas are all built under thatch and are large and airy, overlooking the sea.

Meals are served in the main dining area or at the jetty bar, with a three course lunch and dinner.

There's an infinity swimming pool on the hillside with spectacular views over the coast and nearby is a pool bar and a spa offering a variety of treatments.

There is also a fully equipped PADI dive centre at the hotel. Fundu Lagoon is the epitome of a 'bare foot paradise' with a distinct Robinson Crusoe air in a remote and peaceful location.
