Unguja Lodge
Zanzibar Island
Unguja Lodge is a small boutique hotel set amongst baobabs and mango trees in Kizimkazi on the Southern tip of Zanzibar. It is perched on a low coral cliff, a 50 metre walk from a sandy beach. The gardens are pretty and red colobus monkeys are regular visitors to them as are black tailed monkeys and dik diks.
Unguja Lodge is small and personal. There are just ten private, spacious villas, a restaurant, bar, swimming pool and 5-Star PADI dive centre. The lodge is well integrated into the Kizimkazi community and guests can sit and watch the local fishermen go by. It is owner-run by Elies Hagedoorn and offers a very personal service.
All the villas consist of a spacious bedroom with double bed, mosquito net and ceiling fan. There is a sitting room, spacious shower room, separate toilet and a second floor where you can sit and relax. There are two different styles of villas - the sea view villas with direct sea views and private terraces directly overlooking the Menai Bay (it is worth noting that one of these rooms is set back 40 metres from the cliff edge) and the baobab villas which are oriented towards the garden and the big baobab trees. There is a sea view from the upstairs of these rooms and each baobab villa has its own private plunge pool and air-con in the bedroom. The four sea-view villas all have direct sea views.
There are plenty of activities to enjoy from the lodge including diving, snorkelling, dolphin watching, island visits and guided village tours.
