The small town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is less than two kilometres south of the Zambezi River and the border to Zambia.
Until Zimbabwe's political problems surfaced, it was the place to stay to see the waterfalls and the town was buzzing and vibrant.
Whilst the past few years saw troubled times for the country, Victoria Falls Town was one of the few areas that managed to retain a semblance of a tourism industry.
Recently the town has really begun to come to life again with hotels receiving refurbishments and new restaurants opening. The streets are now busy and everything from washing powder to wooden curios are readily available in local shops and stalls.
The town has a number of hotels, including the famous Victoria Falls Hotel which was always was, and still is, the place to have tea on the terrace. You can walk to the Falls from many of the hotels and enjoy a leisurely morning exploring the rainforest pathways with the backdrop of chattering monkeys.
Easily reached from the parks in Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana, Victoria Falls Town is once again, a wonderful start or end to any safari.
