Airboat trips are the best way to truly access the floodplains in this region and on a journey along the river on an early morning trip you are likely to encounter some of the 236 species of birds that are found in the Mary River catchment.

Days are best spent taking in the natural surroundings through organised private barramundi fishing trips, 4WD excursions through the surrounding bushland, crocodile river cruises and helicopter flights to explore the escarpment country of the Kakadu National Park.
