Britons impressed by Australia's gems: 20-08-2007

A recent survey has shown that some of British tourists' favourite foreign hotspots are in Australia.
A poll from Virgin Travel Insurance cataloguing the best tourist hotspots has found that three of Australia's sites are on the top ten list.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge was voted fourth best tourist site, with Kings Canyon in the Northern Territories making sixth place on the list and Broome's Cable Beach was at number nine.
Travel expert Felice Hardy said: "It's easy to be swayed by brochures that opt for the mainstream and focus on cliched tourist sights around the world, but many of them are overcrowded and disappointing.
"Pick carefully and don't always go for the obvious - natural phenomena are usually more exciting than the man-made, and can be wonderfully free of tourists."
Other hotspots in the top ten best attractions included the Treasury of Petra in Jordan, the Grand Canal in Venice and the Masai Mara in Kenya.
The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the largest and widest bridge in the world and allows tourists to scale the infrastructure. King's Canyon in the Northern Territories is a natural gorge with a flourishing green garden at its bottom. Broome's Cable Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Australia, mostly due to its white sands and deep blue waters.
