Cow running to celebrate Australia day: 24-01-2008

Australia Day is celebrated across the country but one of the wackiest and most exciting ways to join in is a visit to the Compass Cup.
The idea of the event is simple - take one jockey and three urgers and ask them to guide a cow across a football field.
Whoever stays on their cow the longest is the winner of this bizarre event and no trained cows are allowed to take part.
The event started in 1973 to raise funds for the local community but these days it has grown into a huge spectacle with thousands of spectators watching the show.
Other events include the sponge and grunt, were one competitor pushes a wheelbarrow while the other competitor sits in the wheelbarrow holding a bucket of milk - the winner is the bucket with the most milk.
Travellers can also see the wobbly cow race where three man teams ride a fake cow made of a drum on uneven wheels painted like a cow.
