Crocodile film expected to wow travellers: 13-08-2007

Crocodile film expected to wow travellers18243574Australia's most expensive horror film has premiered in Darwin, and is expected to bring a wave of holidaymakers to Australia.

Rogue, which will be released in Australia on November 8th, is about an American travel journalist who encounters a man-eating crocodile in the Northern Territories. Stars include Michael Vartan from television show Alias, and Radha Mitchell from film Phone Booth.

The film comes from writer, director and producer Greg Mclean, who also made the film Wolf Creek, also set in Australia. The premise of that film was of a group of backpackers who are captured by a murderous bushman.

After it opened, British movie critics said that it would dissuade travellers from the Australian outback. However, figures showed that backpacker trips to Australia increased by nine per cent after the film was released.

It is hoped that Rogue will have the same effect for the Northern Territories.

Managing director of the Northern Territory Tourist Commission Maree Tetlow said: "Crocodiles and national parks are big attractions for visitors to the Northern Territory and potentially the movie will showcase both."
