Tailor Made Holidays in The Red Centre, Australia: Highlights

Spend some time in Alice Springs

Alice Springs is an intriguing outback town with a fascinating history and a host of unusual attractions. An afternoon in the town will give you plenty of time to visit the Royal Flying Doctors base, the Desert Park and the usually dry Todd River which plays hosts to the annual Henley-on-Todd regatta. ‘The Alice’ is also ideally located for walking or 4WD trips into the magnificent Western MacDonnell ranges and is the starting point for adventurous trips through the outback to Uluru.

Take a 4WD trip to Mount Connor

The third of the great monoliths of Central Australia, Mount Connor is missed by most visitors to the Red Centre. Away from the crowds of Uluru and Kata Tjuta, a small group 4WD safari into the outback around Mount Connor provides a superb opportunity to view native wildlife, ancient salt lakes and to appreciate the beauty and remoteness of Australia’s rugged outback.

Visit Kings Canyon

Located some 330 kms southwest of Alice Springs, Kings Canyon is yet another of the dramatic natural wonders in the Northern Territory Outback. Featuring 200m-high ancient sandstone cliffs, an excursion to the Canyon should not be missed. The views from the rim and dramatic scenery including the lush Garden of Eden and Amphitheatre provide a memorable day out.

Watch the sun set at Uluru (Ayers Rock)

Uluru (Ayers Rock) is certainly one of Australia’s most recognisable natural icons, standing 348m above sea level in the southern part of the Northern Territory. A magical and sacred place at any time of day, a visit to the “rock” at sunset is particularly remarkable when it briefly appears to glow red. Learn more about the cultural significance of the area through a range of touring programmes that are available.
