Tailor Made Holidays in The Red Centre, Australia: When to Go

The Red Centre is best to visit in the dry season, between April and November, as it gets very hot in the summer months, from December to March.

Festivals and Events

July: Camel Cup, Alice Springs
Riders take their lives and their dignity in their hands to race along the dry Todd River bed. Includes colourful stalls, belly dancers and a wide-range of food, as well as novelty races, such as the ‘Honeymoon Handicap’ relay, in which ‘brides’ and ‘grooms’ each race their camels half of the distance.

September: Henley-on-Todd Regatta, Alice Springs
This series of amusing mock-boating events sees participants rowing their ‘boats’ along the sands of the Todd River with shovels, dragging each other on boards around a slalom course, ‘sand skiing’ and attacking each other’s craft with water cannon and flour mortars, to raise money for humanitarian causes.
