Tailor Made Holidays in Victoria, Australia: Highlights

Take a walking tour of Melbourne

Melbourne is a fascinating city and is home to some of Australia’s top designers and restaurateurs, but as a visitor some of the best shops and cafes may not be easy to find. However, if you join a local Melbournian for a three-hour walk through the city's beautiful lanes and arcades you will discover local designers, speciality retailers and first class cafes that you would never find alone. Throw in a little history and attention to amazing architecture, and you have a superb way to see the city.

See the Penguin Parade on Phillip Island

If you are interested in seeing some of the south coast's cutest inhabitants, a trip to Phillip Island is a must. Audley recommend visiting with a superb specialist tour company called Australian Wild Escapes, a family-run company that has become one of our favourites. They have their own private viewing area so you can get close to the fairy penguins as they parade across the beach and back to their nests just after dusk.

Take a sunrise flight over Melbourne

A sunrise balloon flight over Melbourne is a truly remarkable experience. There are few major cities in the world that can be traversed by hot air balloon and there certainly is no better way to take in Australia's second largest city. In the early morning light your pilot will give you a short briefing. You will then be transported to the launch site where you may help with the launch, or stand back and take pictures. Drift by the array of parks and gardens that make Melbourne one of the world's most liveable cities. As the city comes to life you will look down on some of the city's iconic sporting venues, such as the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Melbourne Park and Albert Park racetrack.

Drive along the Great Ocean Road

The Great Ocean Road is easily the best drive in Australia, if not the world! It stretches for 263km and snakes its way along the rugged Victorian coastline, with cliffs, scenic look outs, rainforest, shipwrecks and laid back fishing villages providing you with some amazing scenery. It is possible to do the drive in a day but this really isn’t doing it justice, so instead we would recommend an extended drive of four or five days.
