Crocs and Alligators on the way to NZ: 25-04-2008

New Zealand could have another species of wildlife to add to its already considerable natural wealth after zoos were given permission to import saltwater crocodiles and American alligators.
The crocs will only be raised in captivity, so no-one will have the misfortune to run into one in the wild, and according to reports from Radio New Zealand each one must be microchipped for identity purposes.
The new beasts will be on public view by January next year when John Dowsett, the general manager of Auckland's Butterfly Creek, hopes to have set up a new crocodile centre.
