Kiwis celebrate the Pohutukawa tree: 29-11-2007

This November New Zealand pays tribute to one of its national symbols with a festival to celebrate the Pohutukawa tree.
Events take place all over the country but Thames and Coromandel donate all the proceeds to charity.
A party kicks off the celebration, where locals and visitors alike dress up in red clothes to celebrate the tree.
Glass-bottomed boats also do daily coastal tours with caves and stunning views of the trees a memorable sight for all travellers.
A newly completed Thames Coastal Walkway is now in action and holiday makers can take romantic walks through the area in twilight.
Handicraft markets, art exhibitions and poetry readings are a few of the other activities for holidaymakers visiting the area to enjoy.
A coastal evergreen with bright red flowers, the tree is commonly found in New Zealand and can grow up to twenty metres in height.
The tree begins to flower during November and the red flowers gained it the nickname 'New Zealand Christmas Tree'.
