Visit Villa Vailima

This colonial house set in lush grounds just outside of Apia enjoys both beautiful views down to the ocean and an interesting history. Robert Louis Stevenson spent the last four years of his life at Villa Vailima, until he died in 1894. The house has been beautifully restored to tell the story of his and his family's life on the island and the guided tour really helps to bring this story to life.

Visit the Alofaaga Blowholes

One of Savai'i's most exciting features is the blowholes at Alofaaga. Here the wild Pacific Ocean waves are forced through crevices in the volcanic rock, creating monstrous jets of seawater. The local villagers are usually close by and they love to entertain visitors by throwing coconuts into the holes - stand back and watch as they are blasted high into the air!
