Reasons To
Visit Fiji

  • Culture

Fiji is considered the most multicultural of all the South Pacific countries. Today Indigenous Fijians make up 50 percent of the country's population, while Indo-Fijians make up 45 percent. Indo-Fijians are descendants of Indian labourers brought to the islands by the British in the nineteenth century. There are also small groups of Europeans, Chinese and other Pacific Island minorities.

The 'Luva River adventure combines four unique Fijian experiences into a fantastic one-day trip.

Begin with an overland journey into the Namosi Highlands, which takes you through the island's mountainous rainforest interior. Atop jungle passes, enjoy breathtaking views out to sea before descending into the beautiful and peaceful Namosi Valley. This tropical paradise is home to the tranquil village of Nakavika where you are welcomed as a friend with a village visit and a traditional kava ceremony in the home of the chief.

A short walk brings you to the 'Wainikoroiluva ('Luva) River where you take charge of your own inflatable kayak. After a brief training session, you're off to play in the Class II whitewater and rock mazes of the 'Luva.

En route, enjoy a picnic lunch in the garden grotto, a short hike to a spectacular waterfall and a dip in the pristine pool beneath. When you reach the confluence of the 'Luva and Navua rivers, board a motorized longboat for the remainder of your trip down the lower Navua. Winding downstream, you are treated to cascading waterfalls, lush rainforest, village life and an occasional glimpse of the fruit bat, harrier hawk, kingfisher, parrot and heron that make this canyon their home.
