Highlights of Southern Lakes

    • Enjoy the views from Mount Roy
    • Mount Roy is just a few minutes drive from Wanaka and is a great place for walking. From the top there are sweeping views across Lake Wanaka and up to the shimmering peak of Mount Aspiring.

    • Relax in Glenorchy
    • Around an hour's drive from Queenstown, Glenorchy couldn't be more different from the buzzing ski town. A sleepy village set amongst the mountains the scenery here is spectacular and, perhaps some of the best in the South Island.

    • Take an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound
    • In one of the most remote corners of Fiordland lies Doubtful Sound. By far the best way to explore it is on an overnight cruise. Look out for the resident wildlife including a pod of bottlenose dolphins.

    • Take part in an adrenalin activity in Queenstown
    • Experience Queenstown’s most personally challenging water-based adrenalin activity – river boarding. Offering thrilling river surfing on big rapids, rock jumping, a unique rope swing, jet ski-boarding and a mega slide – this is not an excursion for the timid!

    • Visit Ata Whenua in Te Anau
    • Sit back in this specially built cinema in Te Anau with a glass of wine in hand. Ata Whenua – Shadowland (a 32 minute film) brings you the Fiordland World Heritage Status Wilderness you would otherwise never see.

    • Explore the Cardrona Valley from Wanaka
    • Wanaka, although less well known than nearby Queenstown, is no less beautiful and has almost as much going on. It is the perfect base from which to explore the surrounding region, notably the Mount Aspiring National Park and the Cardrona Valley.
