Tailor Made Holidays in The Arctic: Highlights

Explore Auyuittuq National Park Reserve

Auyuittuq is Inuit for 'the land that never melts' and is one of the most spectacular destinations in Canada's north. Straddling the Arctic Circle in the northeast of Baffin Island, the heart of the park is the massive ancient Penney Ice Cap. During the brief northern summer the tundra bursts into life with wild flowers and an amazing variety of wildlife including lemmings, polar bears, caribou and birds.

Cruise the coast of Baffin Island

Steam north from the top end of Québec to explore Auyuittuq National Park, just 12 kilometres from the Arctic Circle. Along the way, make remote landings to explore Inuit communities and search for wildlife such as polar bear and caribou in their natural habitats.

Discover ancient Inuit settlements & the wildlife of the High Arctic

Stay at Arctic Watch Lodge on the northern tip of Somerset Island. Looking like a futuristic outpost on a distant planet, adventurous guests are led by renowned polar trekker, Richard Webber, and his young family to explore the bare tundra by kayak, bicycle, ATV and boat. There are many remains of Thule (ancient Inuit) settlements which are pretty unique to the region.

Experience Inuit culture

The Arctic is different in many ways to the Antarctic, the main difference being the existence in the north of an ancient culture. Any visitor to the region cannot fail to be fascinated by the ancient Thule archaeological sites and a culture that, despite the advances of the modern age, has preserved its own unique identity.

Photograph walrus at Igloolik

This week long trip operates just once a year in July and is a truly unique experience. Guests are hosted by a local Inuit family and spend days seeking out the walrus. Polar bears are also common sightings on such a trip.

See the wealth of wildlife

Surely one of the greatest draws for visitors to this remote land is the variety of wildlife. Summer visitors have excellent opportunities to see herds of musk oxen and caribou, polar bears, a variety of whales, seals and birds including peregrine falcons and snowy owls. Often sightings are set amongst dramatic scenery, etching a truly never to be forgotten impression.
