Calling all explorers for massive polar mission: 11-10-2007

Explorer Jim McNeill is setting out a massive challenge to 40 volunteers, whom he wants to accompany him on a scientific mission to benchmark the Arctic.
As part of the Ice Warrior Project, which calls for people from all walks of life to become pioneers, for International Polar Year in 2009 Mr McNeill is calling on adventurers to apply to take part in the most extensive exploration of the Arctic ever undertaken.
"What we're offering is the chance to achieve something quite extraordinary; purposeful, worthwhile, extreme adventure. And at the end of their 27 days of training participants will be qualified to take part in the one of Ice Warrior's major expeditions contributing towards International Polar Year," Mr McNeill said.
"Ice Warrior is about replicating the fantastic journeys of the golden era of polar exploration, bringing them into the 21st century; and achieving something that not only pushes the boundaries of human endurance but is wholly worthwhile by benchmarking the condition of the Arctic Ocean and delivering the reality of global climate change through our media partners."
Applicants will be put through a rigorous weekend selection process and those who are successful will undergo their first week of intensive training in Norway, from January 27th to February 3rd 2008.
After being fully trained up, the team of explorers will take part in four major expeditions to reach all of the North Poles, plus two smaller ones. All in all, participants will cover nearly 2,500 miles of the Arctic region by foot, achieving a vast sense of pride as they do so.
