    Canada enjoys a busy schedule of festivals and events, the majority of which take place during the summer months. Perhaps the most well-known of all the annual events is the Calgary Stampede, a ten-day festival which takes place in the second week of July. Dating back to 1912, the event showcases the area’s Wild West roots, with chuck-wagon races, a rodeo, bands, dancing and exhibitions.

    There are approximately one million First Nations Canadians today. Their origins stem from the end of the last Ice Age, about 20,000 years ago, when nomadic tribes followed herds of bison and mammoth across the land bridge joining Siberia and Alaska.

Field, situated in Yoho National Park, was created by the railway and this still dominates everyday life here. Nearby are the famous Spiral Tunnels, a veritable feat of railway engineering.

This tiny settlement of wooden houses is situated in Yoho National Park, just over the provincial border from Lake Louise, at the opposite side of the Kicking Horse Pass

Encompassed by an amphitheatre of magnificent mountains, this is a perfect base for exploring the grandeur of the surrounding scenery.

Yoho National Park is less visited than nearby Banff, and has scenery of incomparable beauty, such as Lakes O'Hara and Emerald and the Takakkaw Falls.

Burgess Shales

Field village was created by the railway and this still dominates everyday life here. Nearby lie the famous Spiral Tunnels, a veritable feat of railway engineering whilst a more unusual local attraction is the Burgess Shales, an almost unique geological formation of sedimentary rock, rich in fossils of the Mid Cambrian period of 530 million years ago.
