    Canada enjoys a busy schedule of festivals and events, the majority of which take place during the summer months. Perhaps the most well-known of all the annual events is the Calgary Stampede, a ten-day festival which takes place in the second week of July. Dating back to 1912, the event showcases the area’s Wild West roots, with chuck-wagon races, a rodeo, bands, dancing and exhibitions.

    There are approximately one million First Nations Canadians today. Their origins stem from the end of the last Ice Age, about 20,000 years ago, when nomadic tribes followed herds of bison and mammoth across the land bridge joining Siberia and Alaska.

Excursions in Canada: Grizzly Bears of Khutzeymateen by Light Aircraft

The three hour tour includes a spectacular float plane or helicopter ride to the Khutzeymateen and a tranquil two hours grizzly bear watching from the safety of our Zodiac boat that takes a maximum of 10 guests.

The three hour tour includes a spectacular float plane or helicopter ride to the Khutzeymateen and a tranquil two hours grizzly bear watching from the safety of our Zodiac boat that takes a maximum of 10 guests.

The trip to secluded North Coast inlets allows you to observe grizzly and black bears in their natural environment from the guided safety and comfort of an unobtrusive boat cruising close to the shoreline.

The bears come to the freshwater streams to graze on sedges. Here, you may quietly watch as they sate their appetites and play with their young on the rocky shores. If you are lucky, you may catch a glimpse of a mother teaching her cubs how to find mussels and other sea treats along the beach.

Depending on the season, you may also see mature and immature bald eagles soaring high above, or witness Killer whales feeding in the deep waters as you explore. The 30 minute scenic flight to bear country is sure to thrill, as you fly over rugged and remote valleys and cirque lakes in the high sub-alpine meadows, pass over steep-walled fjords where rock faces rise sharply from the deep sea floor.

You land at a floating dock, anchored near the Khutzeymateen Grizzly Bear Sanctuary but far enough away to ensure that the bears are not disturbed. Your return flight to Prince Rupert will trace a different route, no less interesting or magnificent.

Bear viewing is at its best from May to July but they can be seen until the end of September although bear sightings are not guaranteed.
