Carnival returns to Cubas Varadero: 05-10-2007
Varadero, the world famous tourist resort in central Matanzas province, will be hosting the Carnival 2007 event in December, the Cuban Music Institute has announced.
The event will take place during the first three weekends in December after several years' absence as local culture and tourism ministries aim to develop the appeal of the town, which is Cuba's main tourist resort.
Reynaldo Dominguez, director of the Cuban Music Institute in Matanzas, said that tourists as well as people of Varadero, Santa Marta, Cardenas and other neighbouring areas would be able to enjoy a prime cultural event with talented and respected artists.
He added that the Carnival was just one of arts events planned for Varadero in the coming months, others including the Festival of Popular Songs in June 2008.
The town hosted the Jam Session international jazz festival.
Varadero is located on the Hicacos Peninsula, about 140 km east of Havana, off the Via Blanca highway.
