Places to See and Stay: The Far North West - Guatemala

Located up in the far northwestern highlands of Guatemala, the village of Todos Santos Cuchumátan and the ‘Ixil Triangle’, comprised of the villages of Nebaj, Chajul and Cotzal, are fascinating to meet the local Indian communities with their brightly coloured, intricate costumes. Traditional ways of life still persist, cultures hemmed in by mountains 3,800 metres high, in a stunning forested landscape often shrouded in mist. This relatively unexplored corner of the country is prime day-walking country, with accommodation in simple farmhouses.
