Ancient civilisation to be mapped by satellite: 15-05-2008

Ancient Mexico will be seen in a new light when an archaeologist uses a satellite to gain a unique view of the country.
According to reports from the ANI, the satellite images, obtained with NASA technology, will map out the landscape of Oaxaca.
It was in this region where the Zapotec people formed an urban society in Mexico as well as many other things.
According to professor Bill Middleton from the department of sociology and anthropology at Rochester Institute of Technology, the community developed the first writing system as well as the first state society.
Archaeologists want to discover how societies were formed in the region be it through conquest or through economic factors.
By looking through the images they hope to see how the economy and the environment adapted as the Zapotec state evolved.
"When you put the data back together as a picture you begin to see things you couldn't see before, and you can make distinctions that to your eyes look the same," professor Middleton said.
