Candlemas celebrated across Mexico: 29-01-2008

The festival of Candlemas is celebrated all over Mexico and symbolises the end of the winter months.
Parades, music and lanterns provide the entertainment and decoration as the festival brings an end to a long holiday season although travellers visiting the country will not have to wait long before the carnivals begin.
Family meals are a big part of the fun and the feast of Candlemas is carried on from the Christmas celebrations with the same family members.
Corn-pancakes known as temales are served and contain cheese, meat or vegetables.
Church is an important part of the day and locals tend to go in the morning before the afternoon is filled with festivities including parades of the Virgin Mary and bull fighting.
The festival is a brilliant spectacle for travellers and is just another reason to visit Mexico.
Mexican culture reflects the history of the region and Spanish culture forms a big part of many of the events.
