Prettiest flowers honoured in Mexican festival: 28-03-2008

Mexico is well known for being a beautiful and diverse country, and those visiting in Spring will be able to take in one its most colourful and natural festivals.
The Xochimilco Festival of the Prettiest Flower, or La Flor Mas Bella, is a cultural event dating back to pre-colonial times.
Locals cover the town with brightly coloured flowers as part of their tribute to the goddesses of flowers, while dancing around the diaplays is supposed to ensure a good harvest.
Sports and art competitions take place alongside cooking shows, but the main entertainment of the occasion is the prettiest flower competition.
The competition does not just crown the best bouquet on display, but rather the prettiest woman with the best flower in her hair.
