Places to See and Stay: Baja California - Mexico

San Jose del Cabo, Mexico

Renowned for its sunny climate the Baja Peninsula often experiences no rainfall at all in a year. If the rain does arrive it is usually between July and October when the desert landscape revives in a sudden burst of green. The stretch of coast between San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas is lined with one beautiful beach after another. Surfers flock here for the waves and between January and mid-April California grey whales can be spotted. The nightlife of Cabo San Lucas is legendary with San José del Cabo being its quieter, quainter neighbour and a lovely place to pass time, pottering around its shops or relaxing in one of its lovely restaurants. The food, especially the fresh fish, is absolutely delicious throughout the region. However, we feel that being located so close to the USA, Baja has much more of a western influence than Mexican. In recent years, it has become a playground for the rich and famous with incredibly luxurious hotels such as Las Ventanas and La Esperanza offering secluded hideaway opportunities in outstanding beachfront locations - all at a price of course. If you are looking for authentic Mexico then this is not it, but its certainly a beautiful spot to honeymoon or to simply relax in pure unadulterated extravagance.
