Accommodation in Cuba: Conde de Villanueva
Our Rating: Simple
Conde de Villanueva
Havana
Tucked away on one of the quieter street corners in old Havana the Conde de Villanueva Hotel is the former mansion of Claudio Martínez de Pinillos, Count of Villanueva who was the leader of Cuban Creole society in the nineteenth century.
The property has now been lovingly restored into a boutique hotel and all profits are reinvested in the continued restoration of the city's historical centre.
The colonial courtyard full of lush tropical plants, mahogany rocking chairs and the nine simple but comfortable rooms make this an enticing character option in Havana. It is noted for having one of the best cigar shops in the city.
