Reasons To
Visit Cuba

  • Beaches

It’s surprisingly easy to forget Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and has by far the most beaches. The powder white sand and blue waters of a Cuban beach on a sunny day feels like walking through a postcard.

  • Cigars

The Cuban cigar is one of the countries most famous exports. They are renowned for their flavour and quality as well as the precision and skill which goes into rolling that perfect Cohiba. Visiting a cigar factory is a classic Cuban experience and taking in the plantations in the beautiful countryside around Vinales is a real highlight.

  • Countryside

If you want to see the real Cuba, head out of the bustling towns and into the surrounding countryside. There are huge sugar cane plantations and cattle ranches, towering royal palms, impressive mountain ranges covered in thick tropical vegetation and rich, fertile fields still ploughed by oxen. You'll also see local Cubans selling their produce or going about the serious business of playing dominoes with the ever-present bottle of rum!

  • History

Cuba has a truly fascinating past. Reading about Spanish colonialism, revolution, dictatorships and more revolution unveils the country’s story and how it fits into the modern world today in its own unique way. Accommodation in Cuba: Villa Las Brujas

Our Rating: Simple

Villa Las Brujas

Cayo Las Brujas

Villa las Brujas is the only small hotel in the Cayos de la Herradura archipelago and the only hotel on Cayo las Brujas; the other cayes are all dominated by large all inclusive resorts. The 24 cabins are linked by a boardwalk raised over thick mangroves which are a habitat for wildlife such as hummingbirds and 'jutias'.

They are all air conditioned, have en-suite facilities and a studio style partitioned lounge and bedroom area with a balcony. Whilst they are simply furnished and the bathrooms are quite basic the cabins are clean, comfortable and surprisingly spacious.

There is a restaurant and bar with a large domed thatched roof which has a lookout with views over the glorious beach which sweeps away to form a picturesque bay. Food here is wholesome but could certainly be improved and the service is relaxed and slow, but always friendly.

The boardwalk connecting the cabins has a few nice lookout points with deck chairs and even a couple of jacuzzis. There is also a marina just down the road offering a good range of activities. Villa las Brujas is not a luxury destination, but it does have a small intimate atmosphere and the location is idyllic.
