Visit Cuba

  • Beaches

It’s surprisingly easy to forget Cuba is the largest island in the Caribbean and has by far the most beaches. The powder white sand and blue waters of a Cuban beach on a sunny day feels like walking through a postcard.

The Cuban cigar is one of the countries most famous exports. They are renowned for their flavour and quality as well as the precision and skill which goes into rolling that perfect Cohiba. Visiting a cigar factory is a classic Cuban experience and taking in the plantations in the beautiful countryside around Vinales is a real highlight.

Baracoa

Cuba

At the tip of eastern Cuba, sleepy Baracoa was Christopher Colombus’ landing site in 1492, Cuba’s first settlement and the original capital city.

Like Santiago de Cuba, Baracoa has more of a French influence, due to settlers from Haiti, and enjoys a tropical atmosphere unmatched elsewhere in Cuba, with rich, verdant forests, coconut palms and citrus groves on every side.

Getting to Baracoa

Baracoa is remote but can be reached by a very picturesque five hour drive from Santiago de Cuba. Arriving by road is particularly dramatic as you descend from the mountains in a series of hairpin bends, with beautiful views over the lush landscape to the sparkling Atlantic.

Hotels are simple here but this is a perfect place to absorb the colonial charm of the city, or walk amongst the surrounding mountains.
