All Saints day in India: 07-03-2008

Travellers visiting India this March will be able to see one of the Christian festivals that takes place in this predominantly Hindu land.
The Procession of All Saints begins in the Church of St Andrew in Old Goa and then continues through the rest of the town. 31 lifesized statues are carried on the shoulders of locals and are taken in a solemn procession throughout the whole village. In the evening the religious and solemn processions make way for more frivolous entertainment such as family parties.
The main road is the central focus of the parties and celebrations with stalls filled with sweets, snacks and toys lining the streets.
Visitors looking to experience some of the regional religious traditions should head to the Sun Temple built in the time of the Ganga dynasty.
A Unesco World Heritage Site, the temple takes the form of a chariot and pays homage to the sun god.
