Birthday of Rama celebrated in India: 14-04-2008

Birthday of Rama celebrated in India18550814April is the month when India celebrates one of the most holy Hindu festivals of the year.

The birthday of Rama takes place on the nine of the lunar month of Chatri (usually falling in April), and though it is celebrated across the whole of India it is the north of the country that really goes to town to celebrate the iconic symbol of the religion.

Worshippers head to temples to celebrate and praise Rama, with processions and plays as well as periods of prayer and blessing.

Most of the celebrations peak at midday (when it is said that the god was born) and some of Rama's greatest moments are re-enacted at this time.

There are also festivals to celebrate Rama's wife, Sita as well as the monkey king general, Hanuman who was an ally of Rama.
