Elephanta island hosts traditional festival: 13-02-2008

The Elephanta Festival in India gives culture lovers the chance to enjoy some of India's most traditional dances.
Taking place in the Elephanta caves near Mumbai, visitors can admire the grand sculptures in the caves before they enjoy an evening of entertainment in the form of traditional Indian dance.
Travellers will take a launch to Elephanta island giving them a few hours to explore and enjoy the island's culture before the spectacular concert gets underway.
Illuminations light up the main caves so they can stay open to visitors after dark and views of the sculptures in the dark are breath taking.
The festival is organised by the Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC) and the event features a number of famous musicians and dancers.
According to the tourism board the festival intends to commemorate the living heritage of Indian dance, sculpture and art.
Ethnic food stalls provide refreshment and bring a local aspect to the cultural occasion.
Travellers will also be interested to know that the Elephanta site is a Unesco World Heritage Site.
