Jeypore lies at the heart of the tribal areas and is the best place to stay to explore the surrounding region. Jewellery clad Bonda, Gadaba and Didai people congregate in the small village of Onkadelli north of Jeypore for the weekly haat and for a few hours the village teems with different tribal groups exchanging goods. Although photography can be prohibited the experience is exceptional. Jeypore is generally reached by road from Rayagada or on the scenic railway through the eastern ghats to or from coastal Visakhapatnam in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.
