Visit Karnataka and Tamil Nadu
Bangalore represents an important centre for business, science and technology and many visitors are immediately struck by how different it is from other Indian cities. Trendy western-style bars and restaurants are packed with young Indians embracing the opportunities that the city has to offer. Despite its modern style, Bangalore still retains remnants of its past. This is where the British established their regional headquarters after defeating Tipu Sultan, and they continued to develop the city for the next fifty years. The combined legacies of Tipu Sultan, Haider Ali and the British live on in the Lalbagh botanical gardens and the numerous parks and tree-lined avenues. Located at an altitude of nearly 1,000 metres with plenty of green shady areas, Bangalore’s climate is cooler than other southern cities. Its location in the south of Karnataka, and direct flights from the UK make Bangalore an excellent starting point for tours of southern India.
