Places to See and Stay: Golconda - India

Visit Mumbai Goa and The Deccan

The predecessor of Hyderabad, Golconda was once a magnificent citadel and the centre of the world diamond trade. Entering via the main gate you will understand why it was only treachery and an eight-month siege that could lead to its capture – the enormous teak wood doors are covered with metal spikes designed to withstand charging elephants, and the battlements incorporate 87 bastions and measure seven kilometres in circumference.
