With eight years' experience as a naturalist, Jehan, and his English wife, Katie, set up this camp on this quieter side of the park early in 2004. They specialise in personally looking after their guests and the atmosphere here is very relaxed and informal.
Set in a eucalyptus plantation next to a large pond which attracts a variety of birds, the six purpose-made tents are simple but comfortably furnished. Each has a dressing area and attached permanent shower room, and a small sitting out area with cane furniture. In the heat of the day a water-soaked thatched shade canopy helps to keep the tent cool, while heavy duvets are provided to keep guests warm on cold winter nights.
Working with nature and the local community is important here, so for a complete rural experience, guided walks through the buffer zone, bicycle rides into the jungle and forays to surrounding villages and visits to the Friday market are all encouraged.
