Visit Rajasthan and The North
The major city in Gujarat, Ahmedabad is large and bustling. The old city is divided into numerous ‘pols’ with gates marking neighbourhood boundaries, while the narrow streets hide beautifully carved wooden temples, havelis and smaller houses. Gujarat is famous for its textiles and Ahmedabad’s bazaars, including its atmospheric Night Market, are fantastic places to buy superior quality cotton, silk and embroidered clothes. The Calico Museum (housing one of the finest collections of antique and modern Indian textiles) and Ghandi’s Ashram (from which he started his march for independence) are interesting visits.
