Places to See and Stay: Chambal River Sanctuary - India

Visit Rajasthan and The North

Bhatteshwar Temples, Chambal Sanctuary, India

Only 70 kilometres from Agra, the Chambal valley supports 260 bird species, crocodiles and the Gangetic dolphin. Naturalists lead shared safaris by boat, jeep or on camels while excursions to Fort Ater and the Bateshwar temples are a cultural alternative.

The accommodation consists of 8 simply furnished en suite cottages, with hot and cold running water. Electricity can be intermittent but the setting makes this an ideal day trip from Agra or a tranquil interlude between tiger parks. The sanctuary is open from October to mid-April.
