Places to See and Stay: Rohet - India

Visit Rajasthan and The North

Traditional ceremony, near Rohet

Less than an hour’s scenic drive from Jodhpur, the village of Rohet is a convenient place to stop on the way to or from Udaipur and has long been popular with travellers and writers seeking a peaceful place to relax or pen a few lines. Originally a small settlement of the Bishnoi community, the main attraction is the lake, which attracts numerous winter migrants, and the small 16th century castle, Rohet Garh. The countryside and the village itself have become a haven for traditional farming techniques, customs and ceremonies while guests may be afforded the rare privilege of being welcomed into people's homes. The splendours of Jodhpur are only a short distance away and can easily be visited in a day but the charm of Rohet lies in that most simple of pleasures, doing nothing somewhere wonderful!
