Another chance for a solar eclipse: 13-08-2008

Another chance for a solar eclipse18729725Most Brits won't have had the chance to see the total solar eclipse that occurred at the beginning of the month.

A few lucky sky watchers may have caught a glimpse of the UK's partial eclipse through the gaps in the clouds that have bighted Britain for much of the month, but the best views of the full eclipse were seen in Canada, Greenland, Russia and China.

Fortunately for some though, another total eclipse is to occur just next year.

NASA scientists predict that it will start in India but travellers in Nepal, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Myanmar, China and the Pacific will also be able to catch a glimpse.

A total eclipse occurs when the earth and moon align with the sun, meaning the moon totally blocks out the sun's light.

Solar eclipses are much rarer than lunar eclipses, where the earth blocks the sun from the moon, often making the eclipse visible from entire continents.
