Throw some paint in Holi in Nepal: 10-03-2008

While Nepal may be known as a mysterious place for meditation and an ideal location to get away from the rigours of daily life, it is also home to one of the craziest festivals around.
Holi, known as the festival of colours, has Hindu roots and is widely celebrated in Nepal by throwing buckets of brightly coloured paint over people.
The full moon usually occurs at the event which was a favourite of Lord Krishna.
The gods loved to celebrate Holi and that is thought to be the reason why Krishna himself was so taken with proceedings.
Symbolising the victory of good over evil, the event marks the end of the winter and the start of spring.
But travellers visiting Nepal will find there are more serious aspects to the occasion which involve the burning of large fires to send away the residue of winter and the building of a new pillar in the royal palace in Kathmandu.
