Unicycle across the Himalayas: 15-09-2008

A man is to unicycle across the Himalayas as part of a world record attempt that will include the world's longest descent.
Steve Colligan will unicycle over 600 miles from Tibet to Nepal, enduring minus 15 degree temperatures and overcoming 5,000 metre mountain ranges.
He is raising money for a children's school in Nepal and has years of experience in mountain unicycling.
The father of two explained that during his six years as a 'muni-cyclist' (mountain unicyclist) he has tackled peaks in the Lake District, Ben Nevis and Snowdon as well as the Great Wall of China.
"This will be 1,000km of unicycling across five mountain passes over 5,000m high, with the biggest descent in the world," he told the Metro.
"Most of the riding will be dirt roads so I'm taking my distance unicycle, fitted with an off-road tyre."
Those travelling to Nepal may wish to tackle Everest by more traditional means but Mr Colligan's exploits will certainly be of interest to any visitors in the region next week.
