The diverse wildlife of Sri Lanka
For a small island Sri Lanka has a surprisingly diverse range of wildlife and vegetation that thrive in the varying altitudes and resulting climatic zones.
Elephants, for which the island is famous, still roam in large herds in some of the national parks and reserves but there are many other native species to be discovered, including the shy leopard and elusive sloth bear.
Wild buffalo and boar, several different species of monkey and deer as well as a profusion of birdlife are more frequent sightings.
A local park ranger will accompany you in your private jeep on all game drives and although their English is limited your chauffeur guide will be on hand to translate.
