Tailor Made Holidays in The Maldives: Highlights

Learn about responsible tourism at Banyan Tree in Vabbinfaru

More and more resorts are now actively involved in protecting and improving the local environment to generate a positive effect of tourism. An outstanding example is the Banyan Tree where there is a team of marine biologists. The team is passionately involved in protecting sea turtles, stimulating growth and distribution of corals and the protection of sharks. All of this is presented in their own centre where they welcome guests and will introduce you to their activities and explain more about the environmental issues in the Maldives.

Scuba dive in the Maldives' crystal clear waters

For keen scuba divers, the Maldives will never cease to inspire. During the high season running from December to March visibility is often more than 25 metres, the water temperature almost never drops under 28°C and life under the surface is outstanding. Divers interested in big fish will be excited to know that whale sharks and manta rays are among the top attractions in the Maldivian waters.

Take a seaplane flight over the Maldives

The true beauty of the Maldives can only be fully appreciated from a seaplane. Only from a seaplane can you get to see the hundreds of atolls and shallow sandbanks hiding from view sometimes just a few feet under the surface. This is something that often gets unnoticed from a boat and that only can be seen from the air. A resort that can only be reached by seaplane transfer is a perfect option. Most other resorts offer sightseeing and photography flights.

Treat yourself to a spa at Huvafen Fushi

A visit to the Maldives is not complete without a relaxing spa treatment and all resorts have beautiful spa facilities, but unique among these is the underwater spa at the Huvafen Fushi. Treatment rooms are comfortable and well appointed with large windows allowing for a great view onto the planted corals in front of it. These miniature reefs are healthy and attract a great number of fish. Under the massage beds you have mirrors allowing you to look at the underwater life during your treatment adding to the relaxing atmosphere and after the treatment you can relax on a bed of pillows still looking out into the waters around the spa. It’s a great spa experience!
