Über trendy, contemporary and stylish, the W is one of the newest resorts in the Maldives and located on the island of Fesdu in the North Ari Atoll, a 30 minute scenic seaplane flight from Male. The small island is connected by sandy avenues that connect the excellent facilities and accommodation.
The 78 villas are divided into 5 different categories. The base category is the Beach Oasis, the only land-based accommodation available. Each spacious retreat consists of a circular split-level bedroom facing the beach and beautifully decorated along contemporary lines. Outside, the private decking contains a small plunge pool and stairs leading up to a private roof terrace under a conical grass roof. Over-water accommodation is similar in style to the Beach Oasis with a simple, luxurious feel. Here, glass panels in the floor allow a direct view of the clear turquoise waters and the colourful fish below. The good-size decking lends itself to delicious private barbeques and direct access to the pristine water of the lagoon.
As you would expect from a high-end resort like the W, the food is excellent with a wide and varied menu offered by the different restaurants. ‘Kitchen’ is the place for breakfast and lunch but guests can also enjoy delicious seafood at ‘Fish’ and beach barbeques and live music at ‘Fine’.
For those looking for a more sociable scene, the W has a cool underground bar and nightclub, ‘15 Below’. All polished concrete and blue low lighting, ‘15 Below’ has a dark and moody atmosphere, international beats and an impressive selection of vodka to tempt its guests. In addition there is also 'Wet', the main bar and pool area and ‘Sip’ the sunset lounge bar offering a range of drinks and cocktails.
Further facilities include the library and gym and the well-equipped dive centre that offers an wide range of courses, activities and speciality excursions. The island also has its own resident marine biologist.
