11 new islands to open in the Maldives: 29-05-2008

The Maldives plans to open 11 new islands for visitors looking to take an exotic break in the Indian Ocean.
According to the Planning Ministry, the islands will host new resorts of which some will be built on reclaimed land.
Mohamed Shareef, executive director of the Planning Ministry, told the AFP: "The government wants to build resorts on the outskirts of some of the highly populated islands, to bring tourism development closer to the local communities."
Investors could also have the rights to 100 hectares of coral reef in a move that would allow many locals to get jobs.
Ten new airports are being built to bring tourists to the Maldives with over a third of the island's economy generated through tourism.
A luxury destination, travellers visiting the Maldives can expect to spend nights sleeping on wooden huts built over clear blue waters and spend their days scuba diving.
