Religious festivals mean holiday time in the Maldives: 13-12-2007

The Maldives celebrate the day of Hajj and Bodu Eid in January and three days of national holiday make it the longest celebration of the year.
All homes and communities throughout the island enjoy feasts to celebrate the occasion that is an important religious festival.
Hajj is the pilgrimage to Mecca and every Muslim must undertake it at least once in their lifetime while Eid is the festival of sacrifice that follows it.
Animals are offered to remember the historical incident where Abraham was asked by God to offer his son as a sacrifice.
Holidaymakers visiting the island during the festivals can expect a family sized welcome as men, women and children share in the preparation of food, decorations and entertainment.
Folk dances and pop music are popular parts of the occasion along with special prayer, feasts and games.
Famous for being an area of natural beauty, the Maldives is surrounded by white beaches and clear blue ocean.
Visitors can also indulge in whale watching and dolphin watching with a wide variety of the Spinner dolphins being the most commonly seen.
