Located 14 kms from Alleppey, this eco-friendly resort is set in 25 acres of coconut palm groves leading directly to the beach. It is built in the style of a traditional fishing village with 52 white-washed thatched villas scattered beneath the trees.
Each detached air-conditioned Garden Villa has a small enclosed garden area with a veranda and is furnished in cane with terracotta tiling. Each bathroom is part-open to a small private courtyard, complete with banana or papaya tree! The Pool Villas have their own private plunge pool.
There is an Ayurvedic centre, a large swimming pool, a bar and an amphitheatre where cultural shows are performed. The main focus in the buffet restaurant is on Keralan cuisine, though a range of international favourites are also available. Seafood is based on the fresh catch of the day. Another favourite is the fishermen's curries, simmered in clay pots, and served up with a traditional leaf spoon.
There are plenty of places around the resort perfect for putting your feet up and relaxing. Yoga, beach volleyball and tennis are available for the more active and the long beach is great for a walk. The hotel can arrange a local excursion if you prefer to get out and about.
Marari Beach has won awards for its environmental programmes, such as its solar-driven water-heating and rainwater harvesting schemes, organic vegetable gardens and composting.
